Entered Kannada film industry as a playback singer in November 1983 for the kannada movie Rowdi Raaja, with Music Director Satyam and Director Joe simon.  
  Gained popularity for the very famous hip hop song “Ollage Seridhare Gundu”…from the movie Nanjundi Kalyana (1989) with music Director Upendra Kumar. Has made an incredible mark on the South Indian music scenario.  
  She has also worked with the most esteemed Music Directors of many states.  
  To date she has sung more than 2,000 film songs in seven languages.  
  Has sung more than 12,500 songs in, devotional, bhavageethe, folk, non-filmy, Indi pop, vachana’s dasara padha, semi classical, bhajans ghazals, chaudki padha, etc., in 9 languages.  
  Has sung suprabhathas on numerous deities in 6 languages amounting to 98 variants in all. This came very close to entering the Guinness book of world records.  
Has sung and won the hearts of many in giving more than 4,000 live performances from the tender age of 7.
Has not only performed in India, but also in the USA, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, NEWZEALAND, SINGAPORE, HONGKONG, MALAYSIA, and U.A.E..,
  Started as a dubbing artist in 1982 for the movie ‘Ahuthi’ directed by T.S.Nagabharana where she lent her voice to the heroin Sumalatha. As a dubbing artist, Smt.Manjula Gururaj has excelled and gained recognition in one of the considered most difficult form of art in the film industry.  
  Was awarded by a special jury from Karnataka State Government as the Best Voice for the film Beladingalla Baale, in which she lent her voice for the heroin who was heard, but not seen.  
Has been the main News Caster for Bangalore Doordharshan for 14 years from 1983 to 1998.
Has also been a News Reader for Akashvani since 1981-1983.
